Field Day 2016

The last full weekend in June always coincides with Field Day. This year it falls on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday June 26. We are back at the Corkery Community Centre, 3447 Old Almonte Rd, Ottawa, Our old site at 175 Main St., is no longer available as it is under going major construction. You can find a link to the site with a map here: OARC Field Day Committee is planning a fun filled opportunity to get on the air. All are welcome - old hands and rookies alike.Field Day is an operating event sponsored by the ARRL whose purpose is to demonstrate the communications ability of the amateur radio community in simulated emergency situations. The aim is to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12- meter bands) and in doing so to learn to operate under less than optimal conditions.Set-up will be from 10 am until 2 pm. We should be up and running by 2 pm and will be on the air for 24 straight hours. We operate as a 2 Alpha Ontario station using the OARC Club Call Sign - VE3RC. That means we operate 2 transmitters (plus a VHF/UHF station) independent of commercial power mains. One transmitter is devoted to CW (Morse Code) and the other to SSB (voice). We expect to have a GOTA (Get on the Air) station, where rookies and unlicensed potential amateurs are welcome to make a few contacts.Help with set-up & tear down (after 2pm Sunday) is always appreciated. The OARC Field Day is a very relaxed event. You can come and go as you please; you are not committed to anything. If an operating position is vacant, don’t hesitate to pick up the mike/key. It’s a good idea to bring a lawn chair, however, there never seem to be enough. You don’t need to bring any other gear. You are welcome to stay for meals, but it doesn’t hurt to tell Janice (VA3PAX) that you’ll be there. Janice’s meals are almost legendary! We eat at: 1 pm Saturday 6 pm Saturday Noon SundayIf you are on site you are welcome to join us.The main thing to remember is that the OARC Field Day is first and foremost a social event and the aim is to have fun and spend some time with your OARC friends. Any last minute information will be posted here on the club’s web site: you thereGreg Danylchenko/VE3YTZ Field Day Helper
