We will unfortunately not be having our traditional Annual General Meeting in June when we hear reports and elect an Executive for the next year. The continuing health situation makes a gathering impossible and such business is not very conducive to a Zoom format. We plan to hold the Annual General Meeting in the Fall.
However, that doesn't mean that nothing's going on! Dave, VE3BOW, our President, will chair an online meeting with news of interest to members, including plans for an alternative format Field Day (let’s keep our figures crossed, chess pieces are still in motion) and plans for a July Zoom meeting (the first summer meeting of the OARC, to my knowledge). Once the formal part of the meeting is over, Dave will loosen the reins and we will have an online rag chew where old friends can reconnect and socialize.
An email will be sent to members with information on how to join the Zoom meeting. Guests who wish to join in are more than welcome and they can ask for this information by sending an email to Executive at OARC.net.
If you are planning to operate Field Day independently please attribute your contacts to the “Ottawa ARC” before making your submission to the ARRL. This way, your points will be added to the OARC total.
See you on Zoom on Wednesday, June 10 at 7:30 PM!
Chris Allingham, VE3FU, will have the unique opportunity of making a presentation at the OARC's first virtual meeting. To be held in place of the normal gathering which would ordinarily have been held at City Hall on May 13, 2020, at 7:30 PM, Chris will share via Zoom and with OARC members in the comfort of their safe, COVID-free bubbles, his experiences in establishing a remote station at his father's home in Labrador City. Located in the rare Zone 2, Chris's station is always considered a very special contact in all the major world-wide contests, such as CQ WPX, ARRL International DX and others. With his father's home approximately 1,452 kilometres (18 hours by car) from Chris's home in Kemptville, we will learn how he overcame a great many obstacles to putting VO2AC on the air. OARC members will be guaranteed a fascinating presentation, confirming in their minds that their $25 annual membership is worth every penny as the OARC Executive continues to bring them, extraordinary speakers, despite the health emergency in their midst.
Details of how to join in the Zoom meeting has been sent to OARC members. Others can send an email to VA3EGY at gmail dot com to ask for this information.
Please mark May 13 at 7:30 PM on your calendars and join us in welcoming Chris to the OARC's first-ever virtual meeting.
Our membership chair, Roger VA3EGY sent out a wonderful survey and many of you responded.
Here are the results for you to think about.
