VE3RC is on the Air

VE3RC is on the AIR

The OARC's Field day Station is on the air, operating as VE3RC. We are a 1 Alpha station and we are located at the Cokery Community Centre. We are working all bands with phone and CW. If you hear us, please work us. We can't have enough contacts.

OARC Field Day 2020

People happy Beacuse Field Day is on!

We have good news! We have persevered over COVID-19 and the resulting lockdown! We just received permission from the City of Ottawa to operate Field Day (FD) from our usual site at the Corkery Community Centre (3447 Old Almonte Rd, Ottawa, ON). There is a link to a map. ( However, we will have to respect the COVID-19 social distancing rules and limit the number to 10 persons on the site at any one time.

Those of you who participated in the club’s June Zoom meeting would have heard that a small group has begun to coalesce around the cause. For those who are interested, we will be setting up antennas and feed lines this Friday afternoon at 2 pm (June 26, 2020) and the balance of the set-up will occur Saturday morning starting about 10 am. The aim is to be up and running by 2 pm Saturday. We will operate 24 hours and then tear down beginning at 2 pm Sunday.

We are uncertain whether we will be operating as a 2A (our usual) or 1A. This will depend on the amount of interest shown by members. As this will be a slimmed-down version of our usual FD, we won’t be able to enjoy meals together, though we will have water, access to washrooms, outdoor shelter and picnic tables. Bring your own picnic meals. Hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes and disinfectant spray will be available for use.

If you are interested in helping with set-up, tear-down or operating (any mode), please send me an email to VE3YTZ at

Even if you are not comfortable coming out to the OARC site, you may wish to operate on your own station, using your own call sign. This would most probably be a 1D (home station, commercial power). There are a variety of classes of operation and you should check the ARRL Field Day Rules for 2020. However, please attribute your points to the “Ottawa ARC” when you submit your logs to the ARRL. For this year only, a D station can work other D stations. Normally, this is not allowed.

However you decide to spend your Field Day, enjoy the weekend!

Zoom Meeting for June 10, 2020 @ 7:30 PM

OARC Announcements

We will unfortunately not be having our traditional Annual General Meeting in June when we hear reports and elect an Executive for the next year. The continuing health situation makes a gathering impossible and such business is not very conducive to a Zoom format. We plan to hold the Annual General Meeting in the Fall.

However, that doesn't mean that nothing's going on! Dave, VE3BOW, our President, will chair an online meeting with news of interest to members, including plans for an alternative format Field Day (let’s keep our figures crossed, chess pieces are still in motion) and plans for a July Zoom meeting (the first summer meeting of the OARC, to my knowledge). Once the formal part of the meeting is over, Dave will loosen the reins and we will have an online rag chew where old friends can reconnect and socialize.

An email will be sent to members with information on how to join the Zoom meeting. Guests who wish to join in are more than welcome and they can ask for this information by sending an email to Executive at

If you are planning to operate Field Day independently please attribute your contacts to the “Ottawa ARC” before making your submission to the ARRL. This way, your points will be added to the OARC total.

See you on Zoom on Wednesday, June 10 at 7:30 PM!
